Meridian Logistics: off the server-room floor

Overview

Meridian moves freight for 200+ customers from two depots. Dispatch, tracking and billing ran on servers under one depot's stairs — loud, hot, and one failed disk away from a very bad week.

The challenge

Peak season was eight weeks out. Any outage would strand drivers and breach customer SLAs. The move had to happen over quiet weekend windows, with instant rollback if anything misbehaved.

Our approach

We inventoried every workload, built a hardened cloud landing zone, and rehearsed each cutover twice before touching production. Move groups went over four weekends; drivers noticed nothing except faster tracking updates.

What changed

Dispatch now runs on monitored, backed-up infrastructure with failover nobody has needed yet. The server room is a storage cupboard, the cloud bill sits under its monthly ceiling, and peak season passed without a single incident.
